Don't dismiss it as just a "leaf".

The olive tree is valuable not only for its fruit, the olive, and its juice, olive oil, but also for its leaves. Olive leaves contain 'oleuropein,' an effective antimicrobial substance against countless viruses, bacteria, and fungi. It either inhibits the spread of viruses by preventing their multiplication or supports the immune system in producing more cells that fight disease.

Olive leaf has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. Therefore, it can combat microbes that cause infections like the flu and upper respiratory tract infections. It helps maintain a healthy heart. It relaxes blood vessels and prevents plaque buildup on artery walls. It also protects the body from arrhythmias, which cause a drop in blood pressure. It helps increase the rate of osteoblasts, the cells responsible for bone growth in the body. This is especially helpful for women in maintaining bone mass during the aging process. It aids in fat burning. It strengthens the immune system. It prevents bad cholesterol. It contains antioxidants. It fights infections. It helps prevent cancer. It reduces some symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.

HOW IS IT PREPARED?

Add 1 teaspoon of dried, finely chopped olive leaves per cup to freshly boiled water and let it steep for 3-5 minutes. You can drink it on its own after straining, or mixed with a thin slice of lemon, honey, or other herbal teas. (Olive leaf tea is available at herbalist shops or supermarkets selling such products. It's sold both as a tea bag and loose leaf. If you want to use it for therapeutic purposes, then olive leaf extract is recommended.)

ATTENTION!

It should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without consulting a doctor. It should also be noted that it may increase the effects of medications in those using blood thinners, blood pressure medications, and blood sugar lowering drugs.
